The morning sun hung low in the clear blue sky, casting a golden glow over the school campus. The peaceful silence of dawn had long disappeared, replaced by the cheerful chaos of another school day.
Students streamed through the entrance gates in endless waves, filling every corner of the campus with life.
Some hurried toward their classrooms, worried about being late, while others strolled along the pathways without a care in the world.
Laughter echoed through the air as groups of friends talked about their teachers, unfinished homework, exam results, weekend plans, and the latest school gossip.
A few whispered about their crushes, earning playful nudges and teasing smiles from their friends.
The neatly trimmed gardens bordering the pathways swayed gently in the morning breeze, adding a touch of calm to the lively atmosphere.
Among the crowd of familiar faces, one girl walked through the entrance gate a little more slowly than everyone else.
She paused just inside the campus, her curious eyes wandering over the unfamiliar surroundings. Everything felt different—the voices, the faces, the classrooms, even the air itself.
Students brushed past her without a second glance, each too busy with their own conversations to notice the newcomer standing quietly among them. After a moment, she looked up.
The school building stood tall before her, its white walls glowing beneath the warm sunlight. The windows reflected the golden sky while the sounds of students echoed through its corridors, making the entire place feel alive.
Y/N Rana
Stood there silently, her ponytail swaying gently with the breeze. She adjusted the strap of her school bag and let out a quiet breath.
This was her new school.
After her father's recent transfer, moving to a new city had meant leaving behind everything she had known—her friends, her memories, and the life she had grown comfortable with.
Now, standing at the entrance of an unfamiliar beginning, all she could do was gather her courage and take her first step forward. She walked through the crowd without saying a word.
The sounds around her blurred into a distant hum as students hurried past, laughing, calling out to their friends, complaining about homework, or gossiping about the latest school drama. None of it seemed to reach her.
Her eyes wandered instead.
The long corridors... the rows of classrooms... the notice boards covered with colorful announcements... every corner of the campus was unfamiliar.
A new city. A new school. A new beginning. Without realizing it, she had already caught a few curious glances. At first, it was only one student.
Then another. A whisper traveled through the crowd.
"Who's she?"
"I've never seen her before."
"Is she new?"
She didn't notice. Her attention remained fixed on finding her classroom. Stopping near the entrance of the academic block, she approached the security guard and asked about her classroom.
The guard looked through a small register before pointing toward the second floor.
"Last corridor. Third classroom from the left."
"Thank you."
She offered a small nod and continued walking. The soft click of her shoes echoed faintly through the corridor.
Her ponytail swayed behind her with every step, the morning breeze slipping through the open hallway and brushing loose strands of hair across her face.
Her bag rested carelessly on one shoulder, and despite the nervousness hidden inside her, there was an unusual calmness in the way she carried herself.
Not confident. Not timid. Simply... composed. Students she passed instinctively turned to look. Some frowned in curiosity. Some whispered to the person beside them.
A few boys fell strangely quiet.
"...She's really pretty."
No wonder everyone's staring. Yet she remained completely unaware. The nameplate outside one classroom finally made her stop.
For a second, she simply stood there. Voices drifted from inside. Someone laughed loudly. A chair scraped against the floor. A paper airplane flew out of the doorway before landing in the corridor.
She smiled faintly. So this was her new class. Her fingers tightened slightly around the strap of her bag before she took one quiet step toward the door.
She had barely reached the entrance when the room seemed to change. One student happened to glance toward the doorway. The smile on his face disappeared.
He nudged the person beside him. Another student looked up. Then another.
Within seconds, conversations faded one after another until the classroom that had been buzzing with noise slowly fell into an unusual silence.
Dozens of eyes rested on the unfamiliar girl standing at the door. Y/N blinked, slightly confused by the sudden change.
Before she could wonder why everyone had gone quiet, a gentle voice spoke from behind her.
"Tum Y/N Rana ho na?"
(You are Y/n, right?)
She turned immediately. A woman wearing a neatly draped saree stood there with a warm smile on her face. Y/N nod softly. The teacher gave her shoulder a reassuring pat before saying.
"Come with me."
Together, they stepped into the classroom. Only then did the students quickly return to their seats. The teacher placed her books on the desk and looked around the room.
"Everyone, this is Y/N Rana. She has recently been admitted to our school. I hope you'll all make her feel welcome."
A few students greeted her. Many simply watched. Some exchanged knowing looks. The teacher scanned the classroom for an empty seat.
"You can sit at the last bench... by the window."
Y/N followed her gaze. Two seats. Both empty. Without asking why. Without wondering where the other student was. She quietly walked toward the back of the classroom.
The classroom gradually settled into silence as the teacher turned toward the blackboard, chalk in hand.
She had barely written the date when—
Knock. Knock.
The sound echoed through the room. Without turning around, she let out a quiet sigh. Right on time... Or rather, right on schedule. She already knew who it was.
The classroom door creaked open, revealing a tall boy standing in the doorway. His white school shirt was messy, his tie hung little loosely around his neck.
A black backpack rested carelessly on one shoulder, and a few strands of dark hair had fallen across his forehead. His sharp, dark eyes carried the same unreadable expression they always did.
No apology. No embarrassment. Nothing. It was as if arriving late every morning had become part of his routine. The teacher lowered the chalk and folded her arms across her chest.
"Again?"
she said, shaking her head.
"Vivaan... one day, I'd like to see you arrive before the first bell."
The boy didn't argue. He simply stood there, hands tucked into his pockets, listening without much interest.
"I had practice, ....ma'am."
His voice was calm. Flat.
The teacher had heard the same excuse countless times. Morning sports practice always ran longer than expected, and somehow.
Vivaan Singh Rathore
Always managed to walk into class after everyone else.
She sighed in defeat before giving a small nod.
"Fine. Come in. But try to be on time tomorrow."
No one believed he would. Without another word, Vivaan stepped inside.
The classroom instinctively made way for him as he walked down the aisle toward the last bench beside the window.
His seat. The only problem... Someone was already sitting there. His footsteps slowed.
For the first time that morning, a flicker of surprise crossed his otherwise expressionless face. A girl.
She sat quietly beside the window, her attention fixed on arranging the books inside her bag. Sensing someone beside her, she looked up.
For a brief moment... Their eyes met. Neither of them spoke. Neither smiled. Vivaan studied her face for a second. He had never seen her before.
New. The realization came almost instantly. His gaze shifted toward the front of the room.
The teacher, who had been watching the entire exchange, simply raised an eyebrow before pointing toward the empty chair beside the girl.
Sit.
Vivaan let out a nearly inaudible sigh.
He pulled the chair back, the legs scraping softly against the floor, dropped his bag onto the desk, and sat down. Leaning back in his seat, he closed his eyes as though the lesson had already become background noise.
Y/N stole a small glance at him. So this was the student everyone had turned to look at. For a second, she wondered why.
Then, deciding it wasn't any of her concern, she quietly opened her notebook and focused on the teacher's explanation.
A few moments later, Vivaan opened one eye. Almost absentmindedly, he turned his head toward the girl sitting beside him.
No one ever sat there. Not for long.
The students who were assigned his bench usually found an excuse to change seats within a day or two. His silence, cold attitude, and complete lack of interest in people made sure of that.
Even the teachers had stopped insisting. But today was different. There had been only one empty seat in the classroom. And it happened to be beside him.
Unaware of the quiet curiosity directed at her, Y/N continued writing in her notebook, completely absorbed in the lesson.
Vivaan looked at her for another brief second before silently turning his gaze back toward the front.
A faint chuckle escaped his lips. The quiet sound was enough to make Y/N pause. She slowly turned her head toward him. Vivaan was already looking at her.
One elbow rested lazily on the desk while his chin was supported by his hand. There was no smile on his face—only the slightest hint of amusement lingering in his dark eyes.
After a moment of silence, he spoke.
"Zyada din nahi tik paogi is seat pe."
(You won't be able to stay in this seat for long.)
A small frown appeared on Y/N's face. She looked at him, clearly confused.
"...Kyun?"
(Why?)
The corner of Vivaan's lips lifted ever so slightly.
Instead of answering, he simply looked away and rested his head against the back of his chair, leaving her question hanging in the air. Y/N stared at him for another second before glancing around the classroom.
No one seemed surprised by what he had said. If anything... A few students were secretly watching them. As if they already knew something she didn't.
Teachers came and went, notebooks filled with hurried notes, and the occasional laughter from the back benches earned a few warning glances.
Y/N quietly listened throughout the lectures, speaking to no one unless a teacher asked her a question. Beside her, Vivaan remained exactly the same.
Sometimes he rested his head on the desk. Sometimes he stared out of the window, lost in his own thoughts. Not once did he try to start another conversation.
Finally—
Ring... Ring...
The loud bell echoed through the corridors, announcing the lunch break. Almost instantly, the classroom came alive.
Chairs scraped against the floor as students stood up. Friends called each other's names, and within moments, groups began making their way out of the classroom.
Vivaan didn't wait.
Without a word, he stood, hands in pocket and walked out of the classroom with the same indifferent expression he always wore.
Y/N watched him leave for a brief second before lowering her gaze to her own bag. She had just begun packing her bag, when a shadow fell across her desk.
Then another. She looked up. Tow girls stood in front of her, all wearing bright smiles.
One of them, who seemed the most cheerful, tucked a strand of hair behind her ear before speaking.
"Hey... your name is Y/N, right?"
Y/N blinked in surprise before giving a small nod.
"Yeah."
The girls exchanged excited glances.
"We wanted to talk to you since morning, but the classes kept starting."
The first girl smiled warmly and extended her hand.
"I'm Aditi."
She pointed toward the others.
"Aur yeh, Riya hain."
(And these are Naina, Kavya, and Riya.)
"Hum soch rahe the..'
Aditi said, tilting her head with a friendly smile,
... kya tum humare saath lunch karogi?"
(We were wondering....would you like to have lunch with us?)
Y/N gave a small nod. Without asking another question, she quietly followed the girls out of the classroom.
The corridor was crowded with students heading in every direction. Laughter echoed through the halls as everyone made their way toward the cafeteria.
The moment they stepped inside, a wave of noise washed over her.
The spacious hall buzzed with conversations. Long rows of tables were occupied by students eating together, while others stood in line at the serving counter with their trays.
School staff moved from one end to the other, serving fresh food as the aroma of warm meals filled the air.
Some students were laughing so hard they could barely eat. Others were busy gossiping.
A few had already finished and were simply sitting around, enjoying the break before the next class.
Y/N slowed her steps. Her eyes wandered around the unfamiliar place, taking in every little detail. Being the new student had its disadvantages. She could feel it.
A few students looked up as she walked in. Some only spared her a quick glance before returning to their conversations.
Others leaned closer to their friends, whispering something under their breath while stealing another look at her.
She ignored them. Her gaze continued searching the crowded hall until it stopped. Near the large windows, at one of the corner tables, sat Vivaan.
He wasn't alone. Four or five boys occupied the table with him, laughing loudly over something one of them had said.
One boy was nearly choking on his drink, another kept repeating the joke, making everyone burst into laughter all over again. Vivaan, however, was different.
He quietly ate his lunch, listening more than speaking. Every now and then, he'd look at the others with the faintest shake of his head, as if wondering why they found everything so funny.
Then... Almost instinctively... He lifted his head. His eyes landed on Y/N. For a brief moment, the noise around them seemed to fade. Neither of them looked away.
She simply stood there, meeting his gaze without hesitation. There was no smile. No awkwardness. Only silent curiosity.
Vivaan raised an eyebrow ever so slightly, almost as if acknowledging her presence. Before either of them could break the silence, someone gently grabbed Y/N's wrist.
"Y/N, chalo! Line aur lambi ho jayegi."
(Y/N, come on! The line will get even longer.)
It was Riya. Without waiting for a response, she tugged Y/N toward the serving counter.
The moment Y/N looked away, Vivaan lowered his gaze back to his plate and continued eating as though nothing had happened. Yet, from across the table, one of his friends had noticed everything.

Jay Malhotra followed Vivaan's gaze before a knowing smirk spread across his face.
"So..."
he drawled, nudging Vivaan's shoulder with his elbow.
"yeh wahi nayi ladki hai na? Suna hai tere paas baithi hai."
(So... that's the new girl, isn't it? I heard she's sitting beside you.)
The rest of the boys immediately looked toward Y/N.
"Seriously?"
Jay leaned back in his chair, unable to hide his amusement.
"Mujhe toh us bechari pe thoda taras aa raha hai."
(I actually feel a little bad for the poor girl.)
"Do din."
(Two days.)
"Maximum."
"Uske baad woh khud seat change kar legi."
(After that, she'll ask to change her seat herself.)
A few boys laughed in agreement. Vivaan didn't react. He calmly took another bite of his lunch, as though the conversation wasn't about him at all.
Jay clicked his tongue.
"Dekhna... kal tak ya toh woh teacher se request karegi, ya phir kisi aur ke saath adjust kar legi."
(Just wait... by tomorrow she'll either ask the teacher to change her seat or she'll start sitting with someone else.)
For the first time since the conversation had started, Vivaan finally spoke. Without looking at anyone, he replied in the same calm, unreadable voice—
"Dekhte hain."
(We'll see.)
Silence lingered for a moment before the conversation shifted to something else. But almost absentmindedly...
Vivaan's eyes drifted toward Y/N once again. She stood near the serving counter with the girls, listening to them more than speaking.
Quiet. Just as she had been since morning. Something about her was... different.
